Lifestyle Family Photography Session In Cumming, GA – The Damiano Family

Normally, this family has their annual portraits handled by my friends Wendy or Tyler at Blue Lily. But this year was a little different. Their oldest was leaving on a two year mission just days before Blue Lily made it to Atlanta in their annual world tour. And this time, this family wanted a lifestyle session. Pure documentary photographs of who their family is right now.

I. Love. Lifestyle. Photography. Sessions.

Love them.

It means no one is getting posed or told to raise or lower a chin. It’s all about focusing on the little details and the big picture. It’s not portraits. It’s life. In all of the special little details that now include one less person leaning back in his chair at the dining room table. In the playing of a family card game with the excitement and sometimes disappointments of loss. The joy in measuring heights on a family plaque that has moved across half a dozen states and seeing who has grown more or comparisons to siblings when they were the same age. The thrill of riding scooters in the basement without colliding, or playing chicken with the littles on shoulders throwing ginormous foam blocks. It’s the fun on the playground of jumping off of swings to strike a pose, pushing your siblings (or your parents) HIGH while running under their swings, cramming onto a park bench, or into the family Suburban that will no longer be in the family when the eldest returns to the States.

It’s two hours of fun. That had me driving away and wishing they would adopt me into their family as I think about how much love is packed in underneath their roof. So much love.

Their session started before I even knocked. I photographed the Halloween decorations. And then Halloween candy was pulled out for the rewards earned throughout playing the card game Phase 10. (yes, that’s an affiliate Amazon link. consider yourself fully informed.)

I love seeing all of the methods other moms have in process for keeping their kids focused and actively helpful in the household. I’m always getting ideas to implement from them with my own kids!

So. Much. Fun.

A family of eight. So much laughter. And love.

So much appreciation for each of their people. In how they are all a little bit different. Each stage is completely valued and enjoyed.

This family is something incredibly special and unique. I wish it could be bottled and sold. Because everybody should know what this feels like.
